Does Light Pollution Affect Nighttime Ground-Level Ozone Concentrations?

نویسندگان

چکیده

Ground-level ozone (O3) is mainly produced during daytime in the presence of ultraviolet (UV) light and later destroyed by nitrogen oxides nighttime. However, pollution caused excessive use artificial lights may disrupt chemistry night-time ground-level O3 providing enough energy to initiate nighttime production. In this study, (7 p.m. 7 a.m.) O3, oxide (NO), dioxides (NO2) concentrations were observed for three years (2013, 2014, 2015). The existence was found nighttime, especially urban areas with a concentration range 8–20 ppb. results suggested that variations higher than suburban areas. mean at sites varied, possibly because distribution anthropogenic around brighter locations, as indicated data from light-pollution map. This has not suspected photolysis processes, which directly slowed oxidation. photochemistry rate JNO2/k3 supposed be near zero absence photochemical reactions night. minimum all ranged 2–3 ppb, indicating might also form night, albeit due pollution.

Short-term prediction of atmospheric concentrations of ground-level ozone in Karaj using artificial neural network

Air pollution is a challenging issue in some of the large cities in developing countries. Air quality monitoring and interpretation of data are two important factors for air quality management in urban areas. Several methods exist to analyze air quality. Among them, we applied the dynamic neural network (TDNN) and Radial Basis Function (RBF) methods to predict the concentrations of ground-level...

Trends and scenarios of ground-level ozone concentrations in Finland

This paper presents an overview of the changes in ground-level ozone and vegetation exposure occurring in Finland, both as observed in the recent decade, and as estimated for the period 1900 to 2100. A trend analysis of ozone and total nitrate concentrations is carried out for the 1989–2001 period. Future and past concentrations are modelled based on chemistry-transport model simulations, the S...

Detection of Changes in Ground-Level Ozone Concentrations via Entropy

Ground-level ozone concentration is a key indicator of air quality. There may exist sudden changes in ozone concentration data over a long time horizon, which may be caused by the implementation of government regulations and policies, such as establishing exhaust emission limits for on-road vehicles. To monitor and assess the efficacy of these policies, we propose a methodology for detecting ch...

Assessing Light Pollution in China Based on Nighttime Light Imagery

Rapid urbanization and economic development inevitably lead to light pollution, which has become a universal environmental issue. In order to reveal the spatiotemporal patterns and evolvement rules of light pollution in China, images from 1992 to 2012 were selected from the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program Operational Linescan System (DMSP/OLS) and systematically corrected to ensure con...
